PRESQUE ISLE – Born in the Star City, Jason Rogers is proving he has what it takes to be a star.

The Presque Isle native spent the better part of his life in Aroostook County and New Brunswick, where his family eventually moved. He now calls Nashville home where he is pursuing a career in music.

“I was born in Presque Isle and grew up in New Brunswick. My father, Lawrence, works for McCain’s and my mother works for the Salvation Army. They now reside in Illinois and I live in Tennessee,” said Rogers.

Now in his 20s, he said his interest in music began at an early age. “I was playing “Rhinestone Cowboy” for my family when I was 2. I started writing my own music when I was around 16 but have always had interest in it,” he said.

A trip to Hawaii with his wife a short time ago proved to be the catalyst for his music career. “My wife and I were on our honeymoon and I wanted to buy a guitar, kind of like a big souvenir. We went to this little music store in Hawaii and this guy was playing guitar when we went in. We started jamming and talking. He liked my music so he gave me the name of a producer in Nashville who owned a music studio. One thing led to another and the next thing I knew, I was recording my first CD,” said Rogers.

Little did Rogers know during that chance meeting in 2004 that by 2007, he would receive the honor of being named finalist in the Song of the Year songwriting contest.

“Song of the Year is an international songwriting contest supporting VH-1′s Save the Music Foundation. The Song of the Year judges are some of the biggest names in music, including many Grammy Award winners,” he said.

In a recent release, Rogers was recognized for his achievement.
“Song of the Year is excited to recognize Jason for his exceptional songwriting ability for the song “Breathe Into Me.” Jason competed against songwriters from all over the world for this honor,” stated the release.
Rogers said his wife is his biggest inspiration for writing the song. “I have a great relationship with my wife. I love her very much,” he said.

Musical ability seems to run in his family. My brother, David plays guitar. My dad has played piano from the time we were children. He’s definitely been an influence. And my sister Beth plays piano and has been writing and is considering making her own country album. So I guess you could say it runs in the family,” he said.

Rogers is currently concentrating on his songwriting and music career while hoping to get a record or publishing deal.

The singer/songwriter would like to visit the County again sometime.
“My whole family was up in that area in August. My wife and I really think Maine is pretty. We talk about moving up there one day. A lot more snow though – way more than Tennessee!” said Rogers.
While music is his main interest, Rogers said he had other goals growing up. “It was either going to be preaching, politics or music. It seems music favors me for the moment,” said Rogers.

The artist is grateful for the support he’s gotten over the years.
“Martin at Music City Demos has been incredible. He’s worked in Nashville with huge artist for a long time and I have been really fortunate to work with him. My mom and dad have supported me beyond measure, as have my brother and sister. And my wife is an angel for putting up with me,” said Rogers.

Rogers is currently working with Music City Productions to record his first album, scheduled for release in early 2007. For more information on Rogers, visit www.CowboyJason.com
